So I was wrong. I am willing to admit when I am wrong and in the last blog that I published about the high school kids walking out in the middle of school I was wrong. I’m still right about why a majority of the high school kids left school. That’s just a fact. You can argue their desire to be involved politically all you want but that just means you were never a high school student. I was wrong about the size of this movement. You want to know how I found out I was wrong? I walked in on an anti trump rally at my school. Walking through the campus center at UMass Boston, just looking for a place to eat lunch in peace and I walked right the fuck into one of these protests. I was more rattled than when B Rabbit walked in on his girl getting railed in the studio. Naturally I did not eat lunch but rather ate crow. I stood outside the trust circle that these very reasonably minded protesters formed and analysed their ideas and messages. This is what I found out about this protest first hand.
They actually have no clue what they are protesting. I’m sorry to be the one to break this news to you but I have a sneaking suspicion that these people don’t know what they are actually protesting. I talked with a fellow outlier of this protest named Tony and he explained to me that they were partially protesting Trump’s policies, Trump’s racism of Blacks, Mexicans, Asians and Jews (Didn’t know Trump actually cared about those last two groups but if the protesters say it then it must be true), the potential ban on Muslims, local school budget cuts, the pipeline with the Indians, as well as being a Black Lives Matter protest. Tony was the man. On top of explaining the goals of this protest Tony was willing to stand with me and call bull shit on the massive amounts of bull shit that was being spewed here. Tony is a Trump supporter. Tony is also a bisexual Mexican who is studying to get his major in economics with a minor in political science and he has a girlfriend. I learned a lot about Tony. Tony agreed with Trump about keeping Mexicans out of America because “they are terrible people”.
Tony was very anxious to express his opinions and his unique perspective to these liberal protesters and so after they had their big rally and were all ready to leave to go march with the handful of high schoolers that actually showed up to the state house, him and I walked up to the cute girl holding the sign about the Indian pipeline. This wasn’t my ideal way to approach an attractive girl but I was playing the part of reporter and I had to report what was about to go down. Let me tell you, the fireworks from this conversation were stupendous. There was such underlying hatred between these two as soon as she realized what his opinions were. She did try and mask her hatred with a civil tone and a reasonable argument but it was so obvious that seeing someone like Tony, who by all means should have been on her side, argue against her definitely had this girl upset.
So yeah I might have been wrong a little. This protest might have been bigger than I thought. But here’s what I don’t get. For high school kids this was a cute little thing where they miss class and maybe they think they proved a point. These kids I saw were not in high school. They were fucking college students! And even some college professors. Do you know what you prove as a college student when you walk out of a class that you paid thousands of dollars to pay for? NOTHING! No one gives a shit. Your professors don’t care if they are lecturing to one Mexican kid named Tony wearing a Make America Great Again hat or if the class is full of you foolish assholes, because they get a paycheck either way. You are an asshole if you leave class to hold signs in the fucking cold, not an activist, just an asshole. Its these assholes that make me actually happy that their hero Bernie Sanders got fucked by his own party because otherwise we would be paying for these overly opinionated assholes to not go to their classes. Fuck you guys.
