BBC News- It is time to start making babies from three people, according to scientists advising the UK’s fertility regulator.

The move has been described as “historic”, and the regulator will make its decision next month.

Doctors want to make babies from three people to prevent diseases that starve the body of energy, leading to brain damage, muscle wasting and heart failure.

However, fresh evidence suggests it will fail in one in eight pregnancies.

Three-person IVF replaces the defective power packs in the mother’s egg – called mitochondria – with healthy ones from a donor woman.

A three-person baby has most of its genetic inheritance from its parents, but also a tiny amount from the donor woman.

Parliament has already legalised the controversial procedure, and a baby has been born from the technique in Mexico.

However, there have been calls for extra checks on the science before it goes ahead in the UK.

Prof Robin Lovell-Badge, one of the researchers who reviewed the evidence, said the moment had come.

“We’re not going to learn much more now unless you try it out for real basically – it’s at that stage,” he said.

“There’s no reason why it shouldn’t go ahead now, but do it cautiously on selected patients where the risk of having a badly affected child is very high.”

Just to make sure that we are on the same page, I understood like 40% of that article. Its been too long since I fucked with biology and the name mitochondria means nothing to me. So what I understood is that there will/ have already been kids who have the genetics from 3 separate human beings and this is good because it reduces the kids susceptibility to disease but also bad cause it can fuck the kid up. If you understood it good for you.

This is fucking sci-fi come to life right here and I am not comfortable with it at all. Guys are only supposed to fuck one girl at a time, that’s why we are only made with one dick, and a bunch of fingers just in case we are really lucky. And girls aren’t supposed to share their eggs and combine them. It’s just not normal. For the most part kids with two genetic parents have been alright for the last million years. I don’t think we need to really fuck with that for the time being.

It’s all about the kids. What the fuck do you do as a kid of three parents. That can’t be a comfortable situation. Aside from constantly being studied by the scientists that helped create you, your life has to still suck. Are you raised by your two moms and your dad or do two of them raise you and you have the really suspiciously nice aunt who comes around to visit you every week.

Divorced kids think they have it made with their two Christmas scheme that they have been running but they don’t hold a candle to these Eiffel Tower babies.

I’d prefer if science backed off on this one.
